Random Order, Series 5
My ceramic vessels continue to explore my interest in surface, shape and form.
My recent design concept centres on the intrinsic material and surface qualities of traditional packaging (Random Order, Series 5).
The ceramic pieces are translated from paper maquettes which are loosely constructed from original packaging nets.
I am particularly interested in the idea of structure and balance which is explored both in the open form and the surface of the vessels.
The surface investigates a range of linear qualities - lines, numbers and grids - representing a framework of structure and order, juxtaposed with frenetic, expressive handwritten text and glossy floral decorative motifs.
Previous areas of study have included industrial & urban structural design. (Random Order, Series 3 & 4). These pieces of work are visually more natural/organic in their general surface treatment however use of grids and incised line describe the structural form. I have also explored structure in natural forms (Random Order, Series 1).
